Royal family member was investigated as part of paedophile ring before cover-up, ex-cop says

The former officer claims the investigation was shut down for ‘national security’ reasons

A member of the Royal family was claimed to be part of a suspected paedophile ring under investigation by police in the late 1980s, a former police officer has said.

The former Metropolitan Police officer says he was told by a detective sergeant that the investigation into the ring, which was also claimed to include an MP, was shut down for national security reasons.

“I was in a car with two other vice squad officers. … The detective sergeant said he had just had a major child abuse investigation shut down by the CPS regarding a royal and an MP,” he told the Sunday Mirror newspaper.

“He did not mention names, but he said the CPS had said it was not in the public’s interest because it ‘could destabilise national security’.”

The police officer identified the two colleagues, the newspaper said.

Sir Allan Green, the Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the CPS at the time the conversation took place, said he was not aware of any child abuse investigations shut down for national security reasons.

He however said he had been asked by a “senior person” if he had heard anything about a named MP being involved in child abuse. He said he had not.

The MP he was asked about has since died, Mr Green said.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told the Independent: “If detailed, substantive allegations are made they will be taken seriously and looked into. However, we are not in a position to comment on speculative stories based on a chain of unnamed sources.”

The Metropolitan Police has pledged to investigate historical crimes by establishment figures “without fear of favour”.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Rodhouse told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that he was pleased that allegations of cover-ups were coming to light.

“We do think we are getting somewhere with these wider enquiries and we are seeing people coming forward. We have seen lots of coverage this week around allegations of cover-ups, and I think it’s helpful that this is being spoken about and people are coming forward.

“We will go where the evidence takes us, without fear or favour, I think that is what the public expect and that is what the investigators are doing and are keen to continue to do.”

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating 14 related allegations of impropriety by officer stretching from the 1970s to 2005.

The Home Secretary Theresa May said earlier month that child sexual abuse ran through British society like a “stick of Blackpool rock” and warned that the public did not fully “appreciate the true scale” of exploitation.

Mystery royal ‘was part of suspected paedophile ring being investigated by Scotland Yard but the inquiry was shut down for national security reasons’

  • Officer said royal and MP both identified in child abuse inquiry in late 1980s
  • Investigations into allegations ‘shut down for national security reasons’
  • Scotland Yard accused of engineering 14 cover-ups of VIP child sex abuse

A member of the royal family was involved in a suspected paedophile ring, an ex-policeman has claimed.

But investigations into the allegations were ‘shut down for national security reasons’, the former Metropolitan police officer said.

The officer said he was told by fellow officers that both a royal and an MP had both been identified as part of a major child abuse inquiry in the late 1980s.

He told the Sunday Mirror how a detective sergeant from Marylebone police station in London – who also named actor Oliver Reed in separate claims – revealed the investigation had been pulled for national security reasons.

The source said: ‘I was in a car with two other vice squad officers. They were discussing a madam who had provided a girl of about 15 to Oliver Reed.

‘The detective sergeant said he had just had a major child abuse investigation shut down by the CPS regarding a royal and an MP.

Sir Allan Green, Director of Public Prosecutions, told the Sunday Mirror he he was not aware of any paedophile investigations shut down for national security reasons.

He added that he’d been asked if he knew anything about an MP being involved in child abuse but he hadn’t.

The information has since been passed on to police.

The news comes after it was revealed that Scotland Yard has been accused of facilitating 14 cover-ups of VIP child sex abuse.

Over 35 years, officers are said to have protected ‘untouchable’ figures by shutting down inquiries that reached the heart of government.

The 14 alleged cover-ups were referred to watchdogs by the Metropolitan Police Service itself yesterday. It threatens to be the biggest investigation into police corruption since the 1970s.

The allegations were uncovered by detectives probing claims of historical sex abuse first raised by Labour MP Tom Watson in October 2012.

Those on the inquiry, known as Operation Fairbank, are understood to have raised concerns after studying files kept in storage.

The claims include one that police deliberately stalled their inquiries into the Elm Guest House, in Barnes, south-west London, leaving dozens of boys to be abused.

Victims claim that high-profile politicians, diplomats and civil servants visited the property to abuse boys in the 1970s and 1980s.

Officers are also accused of releasing paedophile MP Cyril Smith without charge after he was caught in an undercover operation at a sex party involving teenage boys.

Police are also accused of failing to end sex parties at the now notorious Dolphin Square complex, in Pimlico, central London, following the intervention of ‘prominent people’.

It is claimed that members of a wealthy and powerful elite believed they were ‘untouchable’ after police were warned off shutting down the sordid activities.

One senior figure under the spotlight is former Tory home secretary William Whitelaw, who is accused of demanding that police drop an inquiry into a paedophile ring.

The politician, one of Margaret Thatcher’s closest allies, is suspected of quashing a year-long investigation into a gang accused of abusing 40 children.

Other inquiries focus on claims that the names of high-profile sex attackers were removed from witness statements and that police deliberately let senior politicians off the hook.

One inquiry is examining allegations that Special Branch seized a dossier naming 16 MPs and peers handed to an investigative journalist by a former Labour minister.

Unbelievably, two undercover officers are themselves suspected of sexually abusing a boy during a raid at the Elm Guest House. The IPCC is still considering two further cases, including the shadowy murder of eight-year-old Vishal Mehrotra in July 1981.

His family believes he may have fallen into the hands of members of the VIP sex ring and evidence leading to their door was deliberately ignored.

Sarah Green, of the IPCC, said police and her officials were examining claims that evidence was suppressed, investigations were hindered and halted and offences covered up.

‘These allegations are of historic, high level corruption of the most serious nature,’ she said. ‘Allegations of this nature are of grave concern and I would like to reassure people of our absolute commitment to ensuring that the investigations are thorough and robust.’

Defending the decision to ‘manage’ the Met inquiry, rather than undertake an independent one, she said: ‘The new criminal investigations looking at alleged police corruption are closely linked and well under way.’

Mrs Green said this decision remained under review and could be changed if new evidence came to light. Responding to the inquiries, Mr Watson said many child abuse victims will have mixed feelings but will be pleased that their voices are now being heard.

Ex-cop claims a ROYAL was in paedophile ring but inquiry was closed to shield Buckingham Palace from scandal

The former Met Police officer says a vice squad cop told him an investigation into Establishment figures was axed for reasons of national security

Cover-up? Actor Oliver Reed was investigated in separate probe

A royal was in a suspected paedophile ring being investigated by police before an Establishment cover up, it was claimed.

A former Metropolitan Police officer said he was told a member of the Queen’s family and an MP had both been identified as part of a major child abuse inquiry.

But the operation is said to have been shut down by the Crown Prosecution Service for national security reasons.

The claim came as the Met’s deputy assistant commissioner made a fresh appeal for victims of historic child sex abuse to come forward, and vowed: “We’ll go where the evidence takes us.”

The ex-officer told the Sunday Mirror how a named detective sergeant based at London’s Marylebone police station in the late 1980s spoke to him about the investigation and the fact it had been axed.

The former officer said: “I was in a car with two other vice squad officers. They were discussing a madam who had provided a girl of about 15 to Oliver Reed.

“The detective sergeant said he had just had a major child abuse investigation shut down by the CPS regarding a royal and an MP.

“He did not mention names, but he said the CPS had said it was not in the public’s interest because it ‘could destabilise national security’.”

The former officer added: “What I was told has stayed with me to this day.”

The Sunday Mirror has been given the names of his two colleagues and the officer we spoke to said he was passing his information to the police.

Sir Allan Green, Director of Public Prosecutions, when the probe was said to have been axed, told us he was not aware of any paedophile investigations shut down for national security reasons.

But he said had been asked by a “senior person” if he had heard anything about an MP being involved in child abuse. He said he had not.

Sir Allan would not name the MP, but said he has since died. He refused to say what year he was approached or if the interrogator worked for the CPS.

Reed was never prosecuted over underage sex. The probe into the madam was separate to the paedophile ring.

No hiding place: The Met is targeting paedophiles

Meanwhile the Met again insisted it was pursuing claims of abuse no matter who was said to be involved.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Rodhouse said: “We have seen lots of allegations of cover-ups, and I think it’s helpful people are coming forward. We will go where the evidence takes us, without fear or favour, I think that is what the public expect.”

Last week it was announced the Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating 14 separate referrals spanning four decades, amid cover-up claims.

The claims – referred to the IPCC by the Met – allege the force suppressed evidence, hindered or halted investigations and covered up offences because of the involvement of MPs and police officers.

Sarah Green, deputy chairman of the IPCC, said: “I would like to reassure people our investigations will be thorough and robust.”

Former Met deputy commissioner Albert Laugharne said that, while head of Lancashire police, he had been asked by a DPP officer to lie about allegations involving the late Lib dem MP Cyril Smith, later unmasked as a paedophile.

A surveillance operation that unmasked Leon Brittan’s links to child sex abuse is said to have been shut down by Met detectives.

Mirror story: Leon Brittan sex allegations

The Sunday Mirror revealed earlier this year how the former Home Secretary was snapped by officers during a 1986 investigation into rent boy orgies run in North London buildings.

But the day before swoops on alleged suspects were due to be carried out, officers on Operation Orchid were told it had been disbanded.

Now the Sunday Mirror and Exaro, a news investigation website, can reveal this is among 14 cover-up allegations against the Met passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A police source told Exaro: “I am surprised this did not happen much earlier.”

Paedophile MP Cyril Smith and top judges were also believed to have been photographed entering the underage sex dens. Sources claim up to 16 high profile figures were due to be arrested.

Brittan was under investigation by the Met over sex abuse allegations at the time of his death in January.

Earlier this month, detectives raided two of his homes.

Royal cover up: Police censor Jimmy Savile interview transcript

PAEDOPHILE Jimmy Savile named the royal family in his bombshell interview with police but any mention of them was removed from the released transcripts.

jimmy savile, jimmy savile pedo, jimmy savile paedophile, savile and prince charles, jimmy savile and diana, jimmy savile cover up, jimmy savile police cover up, jimmy savile girls, jimmy savile fergie, jimmy savile royal family, jimmy savile the queen, CONNECTIONS: References made to the Royal family in police transcripts about Savile were removed [GETTY]

“Under caution, he told officers the first time he visited a Surrey school where he was said to have abused girls was with Princess Alexandra for a garden party”

The papers from a 2009 police quiz were released last week following a seven-month battle by the Daily Star Sunday.

But the 26 pages – which exposed the evil pervert as a bully and a liar – came with 96 redactions (crossings out).

Today we can reveal the documents had been vetted by Buckingham Palace – and that the serial sex attacker’s royal connections were removed.

One reference Savile made about a cousin of the Queen was included in an internal police report released in January.

But on Tuesday, when Surrey Police published the interview transcripts, there was no mention of her.

Other references to royalty were also seemingly erased – and during our fight to obtain the records, police let slip Buckingham Palace’s involvement.

Tony Smith, the force’s information access manager, made the reference as he explained why it was taking so long to release the documents.

He told us that, as well as going to a senior police chief outside the force, the papers had gone “to Buckingham Palace to consider…because they are mentioned in it”.

ROYALTY: Jimmy Savile boasted of a close friendship with Prince Charles [GETTY] ROYALTY: Jimmy Savile boasted of a close friendship with Prince Charles [GETTY]
There is no mention of Buckingham Palace or anyone from the royal family in the edited scripts. And Savile – given an OBE by the Queen in 1972, followed by a knighthood in 1990 – was someone who liked to name-drop his royal connections.

The presenter, who died in 2011 aged 84, two years after Surrey’s bungled probe into sex abuse claims, often boasted of his friendship with Prince Charles. He was also a confidant of Princess Diana and claimed to have helped the Duchess of York as her marriage to Prince Andrew fell apart.

Crucially, in his 1974 autobiography Savile boasted of his friendship with the same cousin of the Queen he mentioned in the 2009 police interview.

Under caution, he told officers the first time he visited a Surrey school where he was said to have abused girls was with Princess Alexandra for a garden party.

If detectives had investigated that reference by looking at his memoirs they would have discovered he was someone who preyed on vulnerable young girls.

He wrote: “Princess Alex is a patron of a hostel for girls in care. At this place I’m a cross between a term-time boyfriend and a fixer of special trips out.” The 76-year-old widow of Sir Angus Ogilvy is the Duke of Kent’s sister and a granddaughter of King George V.

Our investigations suggest Savile’s mentions of the princess are among ten lines of blacked-out text from pages five to six of the transcripts.

The revelation is likely to spark further criticism of Surrey Police’s 29-month Savile investigation which resulted in a prolific paedophile never facing justice.

But it also raises questions as to whether the force took out the reference to Princess Alexandra to avoid further embarrassment or whether the royals insisted it be excluded.

We have been told that 19 of 32 redactions made to Savile’s answers were on the grounds they contained “personal information”.

FERGIE: Savile also claimed he rushed to help the Duchess of York as her marriage to Andrew fell apart [GETTY] FERGIE: Savile also claimed he rushed to help the Duchess of York as her marriage to Andrew fell apart [GETTY]
One answer given by Savile had around ten lines of text blacked out for that reason. The other 13 redactions were made because they contained information sensitive to criminal investigations.

And 64 redactions were made to comments or questions from the two female detectives who quizzed Savile over allegations from three women.

Surrey Police has said its decision to release the edited papers was made “following extensive consultation which included speaking to the victims” and the Association of Chief Police Officers. It made no mention of consulting Buckingham Palace.

The Daily Star Sunday has asked the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to investigate the redactions and consider the arguments any outside bodies made.

As we revealed in May, Government papers showing links between Savile and PrinceCharles, 64, were redacted.

An extract from the files – relating to Margaret Thatcher’s dealings with Savile – was blacked out by the Cabinet Office to hide his claim that Charles had agreed to be a patron of one of his charities. It was reinstated after an appeal by the Daily Star Sunday.

A Palace spokesman said: “We would not comment on police or Freedom of Information matters.”

• Disrupts synthesis of collagen
• Hyperactivity and/or lethargy
• Muscle disorders
• Thyroid disease
• Arthritis
• Dementia
• Bone fractures
• Lowered thyroid function
• Bone cancer (osteosarcoma)
• Inactivates 62 enzymes and inhibits more than 100
• Inhibited formation of antibodies
• Genetic damage and cell death
• Increased tumor and cancer rate
• Disrupted immune system
• Damaged sperm and increased infertility

Suppressed Science: Fluoride Link to Cancer

Long-lost research linking fluoride to cancer has resurfaced in a Dutch film clip featuring Dr. Dean Burk, who in 1937 cofounded the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) and headed its cytochemistry department for more than 30 years. In the taped interview, he equates water fluoridation to “public murder,” referring to a study that had been done on the 10 largest U.S. cities with fluoridation compared to the 10 largest without it. The study demonstrated that deaths from cancer abruptly rose in as little as a year or two after fluoridation began. This and other studies linking fluoride to cancer were government-ordered but were quickly buried once fluoride was found to be linked to dramatic increases in cancer.
